Valentine's Day: 2 months from tomorrow!
Sunday, December 7, 2008
Christmas is almost here, Valentines Day is soon..
My time flies. There may be a few more open slots in order to get pictures in time for Christmas. 'Tis the season to get those Valentines Day shots done, 2 months and 1 week away.
We're thinking about filling in some time slots with "quicky" sessions, shoots not requring hair or make-up that can be done in an hour or less. These would be great for MySpace and Facebook portfolios or someone just wanting a single pose or two. I'm thinking these could go for $50 to $100.

Vintage Hollywood
We had fun this weekend creating the old movie style vintage Hollywood lighting as well as what I will call "porcelain lighting". Tina was a blast to work with.

Happy Thanksgiving
We certainly have lots to be grateful for at our house, hope you do too.
We've updated the pricing page to try to both simplify it and hopefully make it more clear.
It's hard to have one size fits all pricing and I hate web sites that just say "send us an email and we'll tell you our prices".
Small images have been added to the bottom of that page as well because we need to have some product for people to look at while we develop a gallery.

It's finally up!
The new web site with the nice graphics is finally up and running. There's no content to speak of but at least we're through this phase and now on to the next.

Book release party
About 400 people showed up for the release last night.
Sophia’s picture, which I had previously tiled “Flowers!” was printed on the page with their mission statement which ends with “…Saving land for tomorrow.” Perfect. Not the biggest picture in the book or the cover but I was very proud of its placement as I am a huge advocate of the work the Trust does here.
Tom Robbins, my once favorite author, was the key note speaker along with Pulitzer-winning journalist Bill Dietrich and photographer Lee Mann. I got all 3 of their signatures in my copy.
During the key note the podium lights went dark so I was able to give Robbins my flashlight I always carry to continue his reading. Now my flashlight is famous and will be up for bid on eBay. :-)
I had the opportunity to solidify my relationships with Lee Mann, his son Bryce, cover photographer Todd Entrikin, photo judge Dr. Jerry Eisner and a major photographic contributor I had not met previously, Steve Philbrick. I got to sign a handful of books too, that was pretty cool.
I got to get up in front of the group with about 50 other contributors and, of course, take a picture of the crowd from the front.
Diane went with me and we both had fun. It’s something I will look back on fondly.
If interested, the book is for sale Here

Update
We're still waiting for our webmaster to finish up but it looks like that should be very soon.
We had a big photo shoot Saturday with up to 7 people coming and going. Hannah, Megann and Cynthia did a wonderful job getting us some marketing images and Bobbi, "The Vintage Goddess" brought a car full of vintage clothing, wigs and props that will now live here in the studio.
Our business card mock ups are about done but we'll wait for the web site finalization to send those and posters off to the printers.
I'll be attending a book unveiling Thursday that I've contributed pictures for and get to meet my a favorite author, Tim Robbins (Even Cowgirls get the Blues, Another Roadside Attraction, etc) for the 1st time. Exciting!
I'm doing some "meet and greets" with more potential marketing models this week and will probably shoot again this coming weekend.
I'm dumping images as finished on MySpace for now rather than building galleries here, that will come soon enough. See them at http://www.myspace.com/be_a_pinup

Design trials
I am trying a professional looking template on a beta page now:
http://www.beapinup.com/44/index.html
Although it's not really retro looking, it is professional.
See the "blog" tab in this mock up for a different looking top logo
(ads a little pinup to the look)

Web site is up
My new web site catering to pinup photography is up, although there's not much on it so far.
I had several domain names including:
I had several domain names including:
- BeAPinup.com
- BAPinup.com
- BAPin-up.com
- BeMyPinup.com
- PimpMyPinup.com
I chose #1 as my main hosted domain and am having the other names forward to it. #2 & 3 are variants of the same spelling and I may use #4 later for some specialized valentines day projects targeted more towards men for buying the gift of a photo session for their sweeties.
